The Central American country of Costa Rica is a beautiful one with highly praised environmental policies to ensure its incredible natural biodiversity for future generations. With a warm tropical climate year round, and of course the stunning scenery, it really lends itself to some fantastic golf courses.
More than 10 golf courses are scattered through this small equatorial country, particularly around the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean coastlines, many of which are part of all-inclusive luxury resorts, perfect for the keen golfer who prefers sunshine to rain in wintertime.
One resort in particular is famed worldwide for its course, and that’s the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo on the country’s northwest Pacific coast. Coming in at around £500 per night, it is does come with a bit of a hefty price tag, but it is one of the most luxurious hotel resorts in the entire country. Scenically overlooking the Gulf of Papagayo and Culebra Bay, and only 35km from an international airport, it attracts visitors and keen golfers from around the world.
Although expensive, the golf course is a stunning one, and one of the resort’s biggest draws. This 18-hole course is a challenging one meaning that it is suited to more experienced golfers. Set in lush green countryside and with spectacular views over the bay, it is a wonderful place to spot native wide life too as you play around the extensive course.
As for the hotel itself, it is an incredible place to stay and an unforgettable experience. With spacious en suite bedrooms with either bay or ocean views, lavishly decorated bathrooms with all the luxuries such as heated towel rails, under-floor heating, power showers and a bath tub, as well as an award-winning on site spa, you won’t want to leave!
Although not quite as luxurious or highly-praised as the Four Seasons Resort, there are of course other golf course resorts in the country which boast lovely views and great courses too. The most notable ones include Costa Rica Country Club, Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort and the Reserva Conchal Golf Course.
So if you are thinking about a golfing holiday abroad, why not consider Costa Rica. With direct flights from London it is an easily accessible country with fantastic scenery and weather and of course, great golf courses!
